Printmaking - Thermofax - Circus Horses

"Circus Horses" Thermofax screen printing 1/1 edition. I like that I can have as many horses as I want on the page. Seems like I have too much fun that there are too many horses on it though.  Can you count how many horse on it?

12.21.2012 Happy the end of the world with Baby Emperor.

So finally it's 12.21.2012!... and I'm fine. There's no flood, no rumbling ground, no mighty solar ray and etc as some people scare the crap out of themselves. Now here's my Final printmaking project "Baby Emperor"by aquatint technique. Surprisingly, aquatint is the most enjoyable technique I had learned from printmaking class, even though it is so hard to control the values and absolutely unpredictable for an amateur like me. Well..unpredictable is the fun part of aquatint, so I'm happy with it for now.

Bookart : Postcard container book

It's been two years since I joined Postcrossing project. It is a great community where you can send and received postcards from a random person around the world. This project is perfect for a postcard-lover like me.  Two year has past; I got a hugh stack of postcards, notecards, and greeting cards. The postcards was sent from around the world; The top 5 is Finland, Netherlands, Russia, Germany and China.

Bookart class is a great opportunity to do some kind of a treasure box to keep it.  Here comes the postcard keeper in a box!!

It's so much thicker than I thought it would be. It took a lot~~~of paper to assemble it; not including the dummy testing book that I did to figured out the structure. The good thing this class offer me almost all of the paper and equipment.
Thank you Crist Rolik for such a gorgeous stamp.

I cheese to do this structure because it look like an envelope parade with a lot of fun detail in it.

See for how long it is!! This is only just a half of it!!

I leave the backside for the paper's pattern. The letter, handwriting and envelope pattern match perfectly well with this project.

Too much postcard~~~!!

I pick a colorful postcard to make the book looks more fun.  So most tourist postcards are not included; except for the illustrated one.

I received a lot of food postcards and art postcards, which always make me drool and thinking of pastry shop.  I'm so happy for having a chance to do this piece of art. I felt that I just combine a small piece of art around the world together. Each postcard carries a story in a form of handwriting, postage stamps, image on the back cover, or even an ink smudge or tearing. I still do postcrossing as a hobby; it always give me a big smile to see postcard sit in my mailbox.

Bookart: five random words art piece.

This is a small book project that I had a hard time thinking because of the weird (but fun) concept. The concept is five random words. I randomly opened the dictionary and then randomly pointed anywhere on the pages five times. I must put that five words into a book.  I got...1.complimentary 2.long-headed 3.Morpheus 4.blue ribbon 5.sophistication.

Morpheus is a Greek god  of dream. Dream is pretty easy because it could be anything. I wrote down some quote about Morpheus by anonymous writer to indicate the content "Dream"

I read the description "long-headed" it says " having a dolichocephalic head"...I was like "What~~??" I searching for more meaning and found out that this word relate to human anthropology and some scientific stuff that hard to mix with other words. I ended up paste this long headed gentleman which I randomly found on Google into the back page.

This is why I love this book structure! It could be either a home decoration hanging from the ceiling or an art piece on my shelf.

Thank you Martha Stewart paper puncher for all these awesome pattern once again!

Dream could be anything. It could be abstract images, ideas, or memories, and this red flowing dotty circular shapes are really matching with the content dream.

I put green spiral paper on the other side for a first word complimentary "colors".  It's a scrap paper I found in a class's drawer which I luckily found it. This book has a good feedback from both my instructor and classmates. l would says that's this book represent the fifth word "sophistication".

Bookart: The carousel of Benjamin Franklin

The Benjamin Franklin bookart was created by carousel structure. I finished this book during class just for fun, but it turn out to be a great one.

I got all these vintage images from National Geographic magazine during 1970s-1980s. I can't remember exactly what year it is. The magazine had a special topic on Ben Franklin as I see it contains so many images and story, which mean a great material for an art piece!

Ben Franklin's side story at the back page of carousel.

Three layered of carousel structure.

I really like to turn the book into the carousal like this. The book look like a small art piece or a vintage toy this way.
Text: "The charming science", Franklin called music. After he heard water glasses played in London, he had glass hemispheres blown and ground to produce 37 tones and mounted in a case.  Seated, he played the moistened revolving edges with his fingers.
Text: To thwart counterfeiters, Franklin designed currency containing the prints of actual leaves, since he had observed that no two are alike. At 42 he took David Hall as his working partner and retired to a King George II, he fought for the people's causes: military defense and tax relief.

Bookart: Book of sweets

A book of sweets

This one made by using a sewing method and glue between two Anthropologie's bags.

The assignment is "smell inspired". I had to create a content which inspired by one of the random smells in class. I choose a smell of spun sugar plus vanilla to create this book. Thanks to the Martha Stewart's paper puncher for such a cute detail on each page.

The content is international sweet. For example, french pastries.

Japanese pastries that I like.

It took me pretty long for all content was done by hand. But google the reference and information to write took longer.

And of course! a sweet from my country is a must-have:D
Here another work from bookart class:D I personally love this book's structure the most. I wish you guys love it too!!

Bookart : A series of miniature ducks

A cute little thing in a slipcase.

How it's look like when you flip through it.

How it's look like when you unfold it.

This assignment is to create a book by only folding, no glue or sewing.

This is one of the books I made during summer in a bookart class. It's a small book that carry a lot of patterns in a duck shape. Thanks Paper source for such a cool duck shape paper puncher.

Breakfast is not ready yet, children:D

It's not ready yet, children.

Sketch version is a bit more complicate in details, so I made some change.

This one is the most impressive final assignment of spring semester. The assignment is free and we can draw whatever we like to draw, just don't forget to add half lock fold, pipe fold, and diaper fold into it. My instructor help me a lot in shoot the reference. She went into the costume room and brought that lovely bonnet and western waitress dress out for my reference, which help me drew a lot easier and faster. I always happy to draw a sweet and girly stuffs, so this one come out in a children book style. Anyway, I hope my artwork would lift your mouth corner high up!! This one refer to warmness and happiness after all.

What I did in Cloth Figure drawing 2.

Spring 2012 has finally ended. Cloth figure drawing 2 seems to be the best class of this semester for me. I have a lot of fun drawing and learning. It's basically the same thing as  what I did in Cloth figure 1, with more details. Thanks to Lisa Berrett, my instructor, that I really appreciated and enjoyed my semester!
