Mama's carving instruction

Carving lesson.
Fruits/vegetables carving was the most popular food decoration in Thai classical period. Choices are varied from watermelon, half ripe mango, pumpkin, cucumber, finger root, and etc; Basically any carvable veggies. A talented carver could carves a whole watermelon into a very delicate flower bouquet.
This technique is not so popular among the commoners because it takes so much time and effort to learn and carve the fruit, so only the rich, the noble, or royal family members could enjoy food with such a delicate decoration like this. This technique was developed and passed down for generations among the palace women who served the royal family.  I had some difficulty to find reference how they dressed and what did they do, but I enjoy the process as usual.
